Fade of the Day – Carhartt Chore Coat (10+ Years, Unknown Washes)

Today’s Fade of the Day is a blast from the past. Rodney Thornton from Western New York sent in this vintage Carhartt chore coat that belongs to his grandfather-in-law, who used this jacket daily on his dairy farm. Here’s a life hack: if you want unique stacking and dirty fades to boot, you should become a dairy farmer.

We thought this jacket was worth showing as an antithesis to some of the fussier fades we see. Real hard work and wear have given this jacket a museum-worthy vintage look, all of which happened without trying to get sick fades. We take for granted that vintage goods were built and worn to be practical and that fading was accidental. This is a reminder that quality products and hard work go hand in hand and you can reap the greatest rewards by simply living your life honestly in your favorite indigo piece of clothing.
