American Trench Upgrades the Ball Cap to Waterproof Status with Ventile

Dad caps are may be ‘in’ right now, but true classics never really fade away. They can, however, get a bit of an upgrade. Take the new American Trench Ventile Ball Cap as an example. It’s a classic low-profile 6-panel ball cap, made from 100% cotton Ventile—a tightly woven fabric that was originally developed for the Royal Air Force in 1943, who used it on flight suits to help pilots survive the North Atlantic seas. The fabric became popular because, although made of 100% cotton, it was completely waterproof, yet also breathable.

Made in the USA at a 25-year-old cap factory in Connecticut, these dark navy caps are made with minimal branding on the exterior, a sanded cotton sweatband with cotton taping for the trim, and an adjustable back strap. The low profile “dad” shape will fit most head sizes from 7 to 7 3/4, and if you’ve forgotten an umbrella and get caught in the rain, the DWR coating on the fabric creates water repellent properties that will keep your noggin nice and dry.

Available at American Trench for $65.
