Fade of the Day – Uniqlo Slim Fit Straight Selvedge (7+ Years, Unknown Washes)

In time, all raw denim jeans need some repairs. The crotch blows out or the knee busts through, and its time for a trip to the tailor to bring a new lease of life to your favorite pair of jeans. Today’s Fade of the Day is a pair of Uniqlo UJ jeans that have been mended time and time again, using the Japanese art of sashiko. These jeans were submitted to us by Atsushi Futatsuya, a third generation master of sashiko from Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Over a massive 7 years of wear, the crotch, knee, back pocket, and even the yolk have needed restoring. As you can see, these repairs are all sorts of cool, and a far cry from the simple patch jobs we are used to. The fades are awesome too, with some subtle honeycombs, whiskers and stacking.

Atsushi is hosting a Sashiko workshop in West Village, New York City, on December 10th, so if you like what you see, be sure to check it out. You can also check out his work on Instagram
