Teranishi Canvas Collection

If you’ve been following along in the world of leather goods, you may remember Teranishi Brand, out of Vashon Island, Washington. We covered the brand previously as one of Five Upcoming Leather Brands You Need to Know and most recently for their indigo dyed leather goods collection.

Founder Teppei Teranishi has been crafting leather goods himself for several years now and has built a brand that’s founded on craftsmanship and the wabi-sabi ethos. He’s recently expanded his brand extending beyond leather to create a debut collection of canvas goods. It’s a small set of carry goods which use a combination of waxed canvas, Cordura and veg-tanned leather.

The collection includes a canvas interpretation of the versatile Day Tripper, but introduces 4 new pieces to the lineup. Each piece maintains that pared down functionality for which the brand is known and reflects the wabi-sabi heart of Teranishi.

Of particular note is the aptly named Venture backpack. The inspiration came from Teppei’s career as a musician, performing and traveling around the world for over a decade with his band, Thrice. It’s a roll-top backpack with veg-tanned leather trimmings and a ton of storage compartments and access points that, at first, are not immediately apparent. For instance, it has an easy access side zip that utilizes a welt construction so that it’s protected from the elements while remaining minimalistic.
